Insights into the ingredient serving mental health

Check out the food and supplement industry trends focused on cognitive health

THE NIS – Nutri Ingredients Summit understands that technical and relevant content is part of the construction of our entire universe and reinforces our values as a comprehensive multiplatform. With this in mind, we brought together specialized market professionals to share insights into how ingredients can benefit mental health.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), our cognitive well-being is related to a state “in which the individual is able to use their own abilities, recover from routine stress, be productive and contribute to their community.”

The theme highlights the relationship between health, consumer behavior, eating habits and, of course, how the food, beverage and dietary supplement industry follows these trends.

Check out some insights that professionals in the field shared with us.

Holistic well-being

Danilo Pompeu, Account Manager at Innova Market Insights, understands that consumer behavior has changed in recent years, directly impacting people's holistic health. "Consumers want and are investing more time and money in caring for their bodies and minds: well-being is the second most important value when it comes to diet. For Generation Z and Millennials, ethics and sustainability are extremely important when it comes to health.", explains Danilo.

Brain supplementation

Amanda Lima, Technical and Commercial Manager of the Nutraceuticals Division of Doremus, believes that there is a large space in the market for using supplementation with a focus on cognitive health. "In recent years, numerous studies have pointed to an increase in cognitive disorders across various age groups. This is also closely linked to behavioral changes caused by the pandemic and, consequently, by the virus infection.", says Amanda.

"This cognitive deficit can range from headaches to poor memory and even difficulty concentrating. These symptoms may even be related to the after-effects of COVID.", adds the manager.

The memory that goes beyond

Marcone Bandeira, Latam Sales Manager at Kemin, explains that it is possible to improve our cognitive capacity through health. "Before talking about brain health, we need to embrace the generations and understand how they behave when it comes to supplementation. They all care about improving daily habits and, as a result, taking care of their mental health.", explains the manager.
